Orchestra: Monday 7:30-10 pm

Sectional Rehearsals: Monday 5.30-7.30 pm (approx. once a month)

The Vienna University Orchestra is composed of about 140 musicians with different academic and musical backgrounds who play in the various projects across the academic year. The orchestra plays mainly works from the high to late romanticism and additional chamber music projects with a baroque and modern repertoire are also offered and we encourage our players to participate in string or wind quartets. Apart from the orchestra rehearsals, we endeavour to emphasize on sectional rehearsals for strings, woodwinds and brass. In this manner we can offer pedagogical input and ensure the musical growth of the orchestra. It is a challenge for us to keep the balance between amateur music-making and a high musical level and we would be delighted to have you play in the orchestra.

In the current semester we performed the 9th Symphony by L. v. Beethoven at the golden hall of the Vienna Musikverein. In the upcoming semester we will play the Carmina Burana by Carl Orff in the Musikverein.
In addition, there will be a second concert where works by Richard Strauss and Sergei Prokofiev will be played. Together with the India National Youth Orchestra, we will rehearse and perform the Beethoven 9th in April 2017 (Easter Week) in Bangalore, India.

So we have plenty of work ahead of us and look forward to meet you! You do not have to be a student at the University of Vienna to join.

We are accepting all instruments; in particular we are looking for violas and double basses.

The next audition dates are in autumn 2017; you can find further details under Join Us.

Alle Proben finden (sofern nicht anders abgesprochen) im BIG-Hörsaal der Hauptuniversität Wien statt.
